Some tasty nuggets passed in the New York State Senate this week.
S.5228A sponsored by State Senator Andrew Gounardes. This bill will require new drivers to learn about pedestrian and bicyclist safety awareness as a component of the pre-licensing exam and as a prerequisite for obtaining a license to operate a motor vehicle. This does not include additional questions on the drivers test itself.
S.1549A sponsored by State Senator Timothy Kennedy. This bill strengthens the current complete streets law by amending complete street design principles to include resurfacing, maintenance, or pavement recycling. Senator Kennedy has been peddling these amendments for over 5 years, with strong assistance from Tri-State Transportation Campaign.
