We are VERY EXCITED to announce that after years of working on the Long Beach barrier island, we finally have movement towards safer speeds on Lido Boulevard in the TOH. The speed limit will now reflect a neighborhood and not a highway- 30mph!!!!
HUGE thanks to the Safe Routes to School Steering Committee for pushing for lowered speed limits, and that includes the LB School District, Legislator Ford, NY Coalition for Transportation Safety, Parent/PTA Safety Committee Katie Artz and Long Island Streeet's Allison Blanchette.
The fight for safer streets was featured in an August Herald article, "School officials push to reduce speed limit on Lido Boulevard". Long Island Streets Executive Director and Safe Routes to School Steering Committee member Allison Blanchette emphasized the need to focus on additional measures they could take to make streets safer. “We’d like more intersections painted, and protected bike lanes,” Blanchette said. “Injuries and fatalities have kicked upward — it’s been a trend over the past 10 years.”
